Na mjestima susreta kopna i mora uobičajeno se nalazi jedinstven ekosustav. Šuma mangrova služi kao zona zaštite za obalni pojas i utočište nekoliko morskih životinjskih vrsta. Svoju ljepotu duguje djelovanju plime i oseke koja upravlja različitim ritmovima života. Od najmanje do najveće, životinje koje opstaju u ovakvom obalnom staništu na kojemu se miješaju slana i slatka voda jasno dočaravaju obilježja ovoga bočatog ekosustava.
