Na teritoriju naroda Yaaku u Keniji, kao i kod Laza u Turskoj, klima je pogodovala rastu guste i raznovrsne vegetacije koja pčelama osigurava idealne uvjete za život i rad. Ali nemaju samo pčele koristi od nje. Ondje su brojni i snažni predatori, veliki ljubitelji meda. Ljudi su morali prilagoditi svoje metode kako bi zaštitili košnice od mnogobrojnih domišljatih kradljivaca meda, a katkad se čak i udruže s nekim predatorima kako bi ga pokupili.
