U velikoj porodici europskog šišmiša vrsta Pipistrellus nathusii jedna je od rijetkih koja je sposobna za prave migracije.
Ovo putovanje, katkad dugo i dvije tisuće kilometara, počinje krajem ljeta na sjeveru Europe i završava na mjestima za prezimljavanje na zapadu i jugu kontinenta. Tijekom ovog dugog putovanja Pipistrellus nathusii ostvaruje fascinantan biološki ciklus, a pritom pridonosi održavanju ravnoteže ekosustava kroz koje prolazi.
Ovaj šišmiš čak drži rekord kao europski kopneni sisavac s najdužom selidbom.
