Doris' cousin, Charlie Webb, who she has not seen or heard from in four years, stops by unexpectedly, and invites himself to stay with the Martins until the wind literally blows him to wherever his next stop. Charlie is a free spirit who travels the world, generally via boat, doing odd jobs along the way.
