Following the sudden, tragic death of her father, Alice travels from Palmas, a provincial town in the state of Tocantis, to Sao Paulo, the largest city in South America and the fourth largest in the world. Just like Alice, Sao Paulo is a city in transition, caught in a whirlwind of constant transformations. It is this city of chaos that offers Alice a chance to start over, an opportunity for rediscovery. The loss of her father disrupts her life, forcing her to substitute a well-planned future with a day-to-day present ruled by chance. Alice is seduced and swallowed up by Sao Paulo. In getting lost in the city, she realizes she had lost her direction in many other ways. So she winds up settling in the city, where she seeks to find herself, forever changing the course of her life.
