SYNOPSIS

Blizu središta Rijeke, u četvrti Brajda, gotovo dva i pol stoljeća djelovao je jedan od najvećih industrijskih kompleksa u gradu.
Sve je počelo 1750. odlukom carice Marije Terezije da zbog jačanja gospodarstva austrijskog primorja dodijeli jednoj nizozemskoj trgovačkoj kući povlasticu da osnuje kompaniju sa sjedištem u Trstu i potom u Rijeci, koja bi se bavila proizvodnjom šećera kakva u Habsburškoj Monarhiji nije postojala. Sjedište kompanije sagrađeno je na mjestu gdje su dotada bili vinogradi. I nakon toliko vremena velebna barokna palača šećerane ostala je prepoznatljivi motiv riječkih veduta.
