Lost in La Mancha

Lost in La Mancha (2002)

Documentary | UK, United States

Rating: 7.4/10

SYNOPSIS

Lost In La Mancha is a testimony of the attempted making and final disintegration of a film. Narrated by Jeff Bridges, this film about director Terry Gilliam's project that never came to be – an adaptation of Don Quixote – reveals the fragile nature of filmmaking. It also portrays the madness and noble character of a creative spirit. What started as just another film about making of a film soon turned into a thrilling chronicle of an unstoppable disaster. Spinal injuries, internal conflicts, freak storms and floods came down on the film crew like an avalanche, turning the entire venture into tilting at windmills. Fortunately, at the request of Gilliam himself, the camera of independent filmmakers Fulton and Pepe was around to record the whole ordeal. Gilliam allowed them access to all segments of the process. He even wore a wireless microphone throughout the project and he never switched it off.
