Review: The Trap

It is Paris, Christmas Eve.
Michael (Tony Musante) meets his girlfriend, Helene (Florinda Bolkan), who has to spend the holidays with her son and mother. When they leave their apartment, the couple come across a woman (Laura Antonelli) who Michael thinks he knows. Yes, it is Marie Colbert (Antonelli), a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship in the past.

A few years before Antonio Banderas and Victoria Abril in "Tie Me Up" by Pedro Almodóvar, Laura Antonelli did exactly that, in a darker, more wicked way to Tony Musante in this story of pathological, obsessive love.

The film, also known as "The Trap", has its interest, creating an insane love triangle with a spirit of possession, revenge, a pathological relationship after a normal reunion, flashbacks that support the spirits and motives of the present, whose mental imbalance goes in crescendo as the minutes go by.

The ubiquitous and wonderful composer Ennio Morricone puts music, playing pianos, violins, organs, etc to this curious film that turns a masochistic game into a progressive tragic confrontation of erotic thriller and psychological drama, well interpreted and with an open ending.
