SYNOPSIS
Less successful than Disney's other tween song and dance sensation High School Musical but just as wholesome, this child-friendly pop musical is set in a summer camp for wannabe rock superstars. Mitchie (Demi Lovato) is the shy new kid on the block who ends up lying about her mother's job in an attempt to ingratiate herself with the in-crowd. Meanwhile, the egotistical lead singer of chart-topping group Connect 3, Shane Gray (played by real-life boy band star Joe Jonas, who's joined by the other two Jonas brothers), has been sent to teach at camp to atone for a series of scandalous tabloid headlines. No prizes for guessing that the two kids will bring out the best in each other - but first there's a preponderance of predictable plotting, homely platitudes about being yourself and sub-X Factor song and dance routines to get through. It's all breezily forgettable, though Lovato's smiley heroine is at least endearing.
