SYNOPSIS

In his capacity as tutor, Simon tries to improve farming practices in Alabama during the Great Depression. He finds an ally in an agricultural agent - but they both acquire influential enemies. Alex arrives in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and learns that Zeona is pregnant. Later, Simon strongly encourages Alex to enlist in one of the branches of the armed forces
