SYNOPSIS

Edgar Degas bio je sin bankara i odrastao je u kultiviranim pariškim buržujskim krugovima pokraj Luksemburškog vrta. Prvih dvadesetak godina karijere eksperimentira sa svim žanrovima s osobitim naglaskom na portrete.
Degas se pridružuje velikom impresionističkom pokretu samo zbog toga što ova skupina promiče ideju slikarske slobode. Od slikanja u prirodi draže mu je "ono što vidimo još samo u svojim uspomenama". Iako je bio jedan od najvatrenijih pobornika impresionističkih izložbi, nikad se nije mogao potpuno prikloniti ni ovom ni ikojem drugom pokretu, ostajući tako čvrsto na svom umjetničkom putu.
