Glasovita satirična komedija o dva para pogrešno spojenih blizanaca jedni su iz vladajuće, a drugi iz seljačke klase čiji se putevi neočekivano ponovo ukrste za vrijeme Francuske revolucije. U jednom francuskom selu, u 18. stoljeću, liječnik istodobno porađa dvije trudnice.
Jedna pripada aristokratskoj lozi dok je druga iz seljačke obitelji. Obje rađaju muške
blizance koja nespretna babica zabunom izmiješa i više se ne zna koji je čiji. Kako bi bar
donekle ispravio pogrešku, liječnik roditeljima prešućuje istinu i daje im po jednog od
svakoga para blizanaca. Godina je 1789. Jedan par blizanaca, Philippe i Pierre DeSisi
(Gene Wilder/Donald Sutherland) odrastao je kao pripadnk vladajuće klase, dok se
Claude i Charles Coupe (Wilder/Sutherland) smucaju po prljavim dokovima Pariza i
sudjeluju u pripremama za nadolazeću revoluciju. Uskoro plemenita braća DeSisi
dobivaju poziv od francuskog kralja Luja XVI koji ih hitno poziva na dvor kako bi mu
pomogli u borbi protiv spletki njegove supruge Marije Antoinette i njezinoga ljubavnika,

Originally filmed and released in 1941 as Remorques, this heavy-breathing French melodrama was distributed stateside in 1946 as Stormy Waters. The film was a typical Jean Gabin vehicle, replete with two-fisted action, star-crossed romance and intense emotional turbulence. Gabin plays Laurent, a salvage-boat captain who rescues a merchant vessel from a storm-tossed sea. The vessels far-from-grateful captain (Jean Marchat) manages to skip without paying Laurent his salvage money, leaving behind his wife Catherine (Michele Morgan). Tending to Catherines injuries until they reach port, Laurent falls in love with the woman, despite the fact that he is already married to the seriously ill Yvonne (Madeleine Renaud). It takes a lot of doing, but Laurent eventually ends his affair and allows his own wife to expire believing that hes been 100% faithful. An enormous success in France, Stormy Waters was picked up for American distribution by MGM, which surprisingly buried the film in its secon
