Martin is finally making an effort to be there for Sandy and their baby, and Ruthie is having a hard time getting over him. Ruthie and new friend Maggie must both sit in detention after school. The detention monitor, music teacher Mr. Feinstein, manages to get the students' attention by giving them new insights on music and its relation to history.
