POVZETEK

The obsessive Council President Monrad succeeds in stirring a national euphoria in Denmark, insisting that the province of Schleswig has been given to the Danes by God. Meanwhile, in South Funen, Inge finds herself torn between the attentions of both Laust and Peter, but when the Baron is swept up in Monrad's nationalistic zeal, he persuades the brothers to put aside matters of romance and join the army.
