Dr. Ben Berger cheerfully runs a medical practice in Dürnstein, a town near the grand abbey of Melk in Austria's Danubian wine region Wachau. He volunteers to personally take in young Tobi Kern, who has measles, so his ma Verena can't keep him aboard the cruise ship she works on. Monk-teacher Arndt calls for Ben's help after the near-suicide of promising boarding student Lukas, whose heart was just broken, probably the wrong reason to plan joining the order. Tobi's dead Manfred picks him up but neglects Ben's prescription. He and Verena wrongly assume Ben to be married with pharmacist Karla, hence suppress their romantic interest.
