The programme tells of how generations grew up on military bases in Germany that became outposts of Britishness, and reveals how the Ministry of Defence is preparing to finally pull its forces out of the area. Featuring contributions by military historian Max Hastings and BBC sports commentator Barry Davies, who was based in the area during his National Service.
