Architect George Clarke meets a young couple who have come up with a radical way of getting onto the housing ladder - they are building a home almost entirely from scrap on a budget of zero pounds. He also follows the progress of a woman putting together a garden retreat from reclaimed copper. The only problem is, she has no experience and suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. In Germany, George takes a futuristic houseboat out for a spin, and as the floating beach hut nears completion, there is drama in the workshop.
