She persuades Marie to accompany her to the grand opening ceremony of the Hawaii bar, which is to replace the old post office. The long-established regulars are indignant - especially the pastor. He railed against the American way of life, which he sees as a threat to morality in Kaltenstein, which he can use to influence Erika's mother, the mayor's wife Anneliese Strumm, in particular.
