Local newspaper reviewer Aaron Kingsley, who aspires promotion to proper reporter, duly doubts the talent of Holly Shaw when she present her naive, own risk-published love novel debut. After she's purse-robbed and falls asleep on a park bench, her belongings are dumped in the river, so the police and press postulate a suicide. Holly and her sheep farmer parent Russell and Dana Shaw in dire need of cash to meet the mortgage accept her dodgy publisher Clayton Powers's suggestion to hide a while as the publicity gets her book to sell, so buddy stylist Alicia Carter give her a foxy makeover as cousin "Rachel". Aaron moves in a while at the Shaw farm to research her background and soon finds out the truth, unlike her great first lover Vincent Marrack, a Harvard graduated he just returned home to help save his father Paul's grand Cornish estate.
