Little America: Willkommen in Kaltenstein

SYNOPSIS

After an old aerial bomb exploded on the Kastner family's potato field, an American tank destroyed their harvest. The driver of the tank, a soldier named George, wants to repair the damage and is immediately fascinated by the farmer's daughter Marie. While she remains reserved and sends the black GI away, her best friend Erika, daughter of Mayor Strumm, is enthusiastic about the attitude towards life that Americans bring to sleepy, conservative Kaltenstein. Just as euphoric are George and his black comrades, who experience a touch of freedom for the first time in Germany when they can order unlimited beer in the Kaltensteiner Postschänke and go out with white "Fräulein". In general there is a spirit of optimism in Kaltenstein: While Erika's father is busy doing business with the new "occupiers", Marie first and then her father fought with the Americans. When old Kastner is arrested after an outburst of anger and then his land is annexed for the construction of a US military hospital, Marie takes a job at the Army base in the household of Colonel Jim McCoy in charge of the farm and the livelihood of her family to rescue. And in her private life, too, Marie dares to step into a new world: Her first visit to the cinema with Erika opens her horizons, although she still thinks about her fiancé - and Erika's brother - Siegfried, who has been missing in Russian captivity for years.
