La vie tranquille de Charlie est bouleversée le jour où son frère Alan, un chiropracteur tatillon, débarque avec son fils Jake, fâché avec Judith, sa femme. Malgré lui, Charlie leur offre l'hospitalité. Les choses se compliquent avec l'arrivée impromptue d'Evelyn (la grand-mère autoritaire qui aimerait avoir Alan et Jake sous son toit), le harcèlement de Rose, une pulpeuse voisine complètement nympho, et l'attachement de l'oncle, peu recommandable pour son neveu
