Pip is devastated to learn the truth from Magwitch and rushes to Satis House, where he hears shocking news about Estella and discovers Miss Havisham has been encouraging his love for her adopted daughter out of cruelty. Wemmick warns him that rumours of Magwitch's return from Australia are rife, so he decides to help the convict evade recapture.
