SYNOPSIS

Famous for its limousine sex scene, yet actually rather a tame affair, this Kevin Costner spy and counter-spy thriller provides a gripping insight into the corridors of US power. Based on the novel The Big Clock by Kenneth Fearing (originally adapted for the screen in 1948 with Ray Milland and Charles Laughton), this highly intelligent, intriguing movie contains some wonderful performances, most notably from Gene Hackman as an icily manipulative politician. For once, Costner's tendency to stay emotionally removed from his character pays dividends as we are left guessing about the man right up to the final reel. The "surprise" twist is a trifle daft, but overall this is a major treat.

Excellent thriller has the Defence Secretary (Gene Hackman) killing his mistress (Sean Young) not knowing that a man who works for him (Kevin Costner) was also with the woman and witnessed him entering her home shortly before the murder. This is one of those thrillers that keeps you on the edge... (suite)
