SYNOPSIS

Two strong-willed ranchers are torn between respect for the land and the lure of easy living when strip-miners offer them a lot of money for the property.
Montana, set in the territory around Rosebud County has all the elements of a classic western tale: roping riding, ranching, honky tonks and bar brawls. Yet these romantic features are tempered by the harsh realities of life in present-day Montana. Expansive grasslands are devoured by strip mining; ranchers and farmers are unable to make a living; and the American cowboy is fast becoming but a legend of the old West. The Guthrie family are caught in these changing times, a family divided. Father and son are eager to sell their ranch, but mother and daughter wish to save the land and preserve their traditional way of life.
