SINOPSIS

It's appropriate that Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop provided the effects for this Kiwi horror comedy, as it's powered by the same gleeful tastelessness that the director brought to his early cult hits like Braindead. Here, Nathan Meister plays the sheep-phobic farmer's son who reluctantly returns to the family holdings to formally sign everything over to his bullying brother Peter Feeney. However, Meister soon discovers that his sibling has been playing around with nature, and that the usually docile flock now has a taste for human flesh. Naturally, evil scientists are the villains of the piece, but director Jonathan King has just as much fun sending up the politically correct antics of the greenies - in fact, protesting vegetarian activist Oliver Driver suffers some of the worst indignities. There's even room for a bit of twisted woolly romance, although King is happiest when piling on the splatter effects: the film's finest moment comes when the blood-crazed flock come thundering down the hill to lay waste to a group of investors.
