Tortured to Death: Murdering the Nanny

This documentary examines the disturbing case of a couple who tortured and murdered their French nanny and then burnt her body in the back garden of their south west London home.The story begins in 2011 when Sabrina Kouider, 34, a French-Algerian stylist, fashion designer and make-up artist – who mixed with celebrities like Tinie Tempah and model Maria Kouka – had a brief relationship with Boyzone founder Mark Walton. The affair only lasted several months but, after their break-up, she became obsessed with him. Several years later in 2016, Kouider hired French national Sophie Lionnet to work for her as a nanny for her children shortly after Sophie’s 20th birthday. It was Sophie’s first job in the UK. But by the time she hired Sophie, Kouider was having delusions and became convinced that her nanny was out to harm her and her family, and was in league with her former-partner Mark Walton – a person that Sophie had never met. At this time, Kouider lived with her long term, on-and-off partner, Ouissem Medouni. They both believed Sophie was a spy for Mark Walton and that she planned to abuse Kouider’s children. Sophie was starved and tortured by the pair in order to make her confess to their deluded and totally unfounded accusations, all of which Mark Walton and Sophie denied. The tragic episode eventually ended when Sophie was drowned in the bath and unceremoniously dumped on a bonfire. When neighbours complained about the smell, the police were alerted and Kouider and Medouni were arrested in their home. They were both found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey earlier in 2018. Featuring interviews with friends and family, and court reporters present throughout the trial, this film investigates the circumstances that led to this shocking and brutal murder.
