Joe Hufford, convicted of manslaughter, attracts the approval of warden George Knowland, who rewards him with trusty tasks, including chauffeuring his daughter Kay. However, Hufford witnesses the killing of a stoolie and, refusing to grass, is accused and convicted of the crime. Only a deathbed confession by the real killer spares him the electric chair but at last he walks out of prison a free man.
