SINOPSIS
Based on the best-selling novel by Ferdinand Bordewijk and directed by Mike van Diem, Character is a Dutch-Belgian coproduction about a man who wants to become a lawyer at all costs. A ruthless court bailiff is found dead, and a young lawyer is the prime suspect. Told in a series of flashbacks, Jacob Katadreuffe tells his story to the police, leading to the events of his final confrontation with Dreverhaven. What unfolds is the man's life story... his strained relationship with his mother, his strong desire to make a better life for himself, his obsession with his father, and the bizarre battle of wills with Dreverhaven.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 70th Annual Academy Awards.
