Part two of three. Tommy searches the backrooms of Brown's shadowy hideout for any sign of Jane, but discovers he will need to raise £1,000 to maintain his place in the gang. Tuppence goes undercover as Rita's maid, and discovers that she has received a mysterious package from Brown. The parcel is kept locked up and out of sight, but Tuppence is determined to find out what it contains. She also discovers that one of the diva's friends is an agent working for Carter, who continues to obstruct the couple's investigation.
