SYNOPSIS

New series. Crime drama prequel following the early career of Jane Tennison, as she starts out as a single-minded 22-year-old probationary officer in 1970s London, where chauvinism and rule-bending are the norm. Jane is thrown into a brutal murder inquiry when the body of a teenage girl, Julie-Ann Collins, is found in the underground car park of a Hackney housing estate, while the family of local crime matriarch Renee Bentley are shaken by a violent attack on her. Stefanie Martini steps into the shoes of Helen Mirren to bring the character back to the small screen, with Sam Reid, Blake Harrison and Alun Armstrong also starring.
