SYNOPSIS

Judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood assess the 11 remaining contestants' dessert-making skills, beginning with a signature trifle combining biscuit, cake, jelly or custard in distinct layers. The technical challenge involves creating floating islands of meringues on creme anglaise, and the contenders must prepare 24 petits fours for the showstopper. Plus, presenter Mel Giedroyc explores the origins of the trifle and discovers how it was transformed in the Georgian era from an elitist treat for the aristocracy to a dish that was accessible to the masses.
