SYNOPSIS

This tremendous tale of Second World War derring-do has everything you'd want from a ripping yarn: characters with names of Wodehouseian splendour; a German master-spy nicknamed The Shadow; a short-sighted racing driver and an utterly audacious hoax. Journalist Ben Macintyre presents the story of an elaborate feint involving the body of a supposed Royal Marine and crucial (fake) information, which fooled the Nazis into thinking that an Allied invasion of Greece was imminent. He speaks to some fabulous characters, including a clutch of MI5 ladies who played their part in a truly astonishing story. Radio Times reviewer - Alison Graham
