SYNOPSIS
Twenty-something angst is a pimple on the face of destiny in Nigel Cole's romantic comedy. In a plot reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally..., Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet play the strangers who meet by joining the mile-high club, only to cross paths again (and again...) in a rollercoaster journey spanning seven years. Even when they're rubbing each other the wrong way, Kutcher and Peet create dazzling sparks. It's never more evident than in a restaurant scene played out in silence that's like a skit from a Laurel and Hardy film. This shared sense of mischief compensates for a lack of memorable dialogue, but also highlights the absence of any genuine obstacles in their relationship. Thankfully, Cole is adept at teasing out human insecurities with humour and sensitivity (as with his previous films Calendar Girls and Saving Grace), which, together with inspired casting, makes this a fling worth embarking on.
