SYNOPSIS

A prime example of how a bad idea can result in a worse movie. Mister Roberts had been an overwhelming triumph on stage and screen. So, spurred on by the fact that Jack Lemmon had won an Oscar as Ensign Pulver, Warner Bros decided to push out the boat once more. Robert Walker Jr tries valiantly to recapture the impishness of wheeler-dealer Pulver, but (like the rest of the cast) he never emerges from the shadow of his illustrious predecessor. The ship-board comedy is infantile, and director Joshua Logan gives the island sequences a daytime TV soap feel.
