The series begins by introducing Susan and Gary Bailey, who planned to rent out their property in East London, but were too busy with work to manage the let. Taking on an agent to deal with tenants on their behalf, the couple soon came to realise their newly hired middle-man was a fraudster who had no qualms with barring them from their own home. Also featured is the story of Lesley and Mark Irwin, who fell foul of a single mother who turned out to be a confidence trickster - who advertised their home as a rental property, and stole deposits from unwitting students hoping to move into the area.
