Four cooks take turns to host dinner parties in Manchester, beginning with the competitive Stuart Donnelly, who aims to impress in his penthouse, but upsets party girl Angela Daly when he shuns her attentions in favour of shop manager Rachel Vose. Later in the week, eco-warrior Josh Steiner sets himself the challenge of cooking lamb for the first time, while Stuart gets his comeuppance after a week of criticising his hosts.
