Li Mei is a young woman dissatisfied with her life in a village in central China. Seeking escape and excitement, she moves to the local town and hooks up with a series of distinctly unsuitable, unpleasant men, one of whom - Spikey, a violent gangster - affords her the chance to travel half-way round the world to the distant exoticism of London.
