Former athlete Sebastian Coe looks into his ancestry, beginning with a visit to the site of the former family seat in Cheshire. The trail then leads him to Jamaica, where he uncovers a history of illegitimacy, a philandering sugar planter and slavery. He discovers the first of his ancestors to settle on the island came from New York, so he travels to America to further investigate his roots in Britain's colonial past.
