The quartet escort the queen and her ladies-in-waiting to a tranquil forest pool renowned for its powers of fertility - unaware the king is growing tired or his young bride. When her life comes under mortal danger from an unseen gunman, they have to spirit her away before he shoots again, and the group takes refuge in a fortified convent, where Aramis comes face to face with his past. However, the danger isn't over as attackers lay siege to the convent, forcing the Mother Superior and nuns to help defend their home - but things look bleak when the motley group run out of ammunition.
