SINOPSIS

Film-noir o čovjeku koji odlučuje raskrinkati korumpiranog trgovca zbog kojega je njegov otac ostao invalid...
Kad se mladi Nico (Richard Conte) vrati kući iz egzotičnih krajeva, sazna užasnu vijest otac mu je ostao bez obje noge. Kriv je najvjerojatnije korumpirani trgovac Mike Figlia (Lee J. Cobb), koji je prevario poštenoga starca. Naime, starac je od Figlie dobio novac za prodanu rajčicu, ali su mu ga poslije Figlijevi ljudi ponovno oteli i toliko ga premlatili da je ostao bez obje noge. Stoga Nico odluči istražiti slučaj i istjerati pravdu. Udruži se s trgovcem Edom (Millard Mitchell) i svaki sa svojim kamionom s jabukama krene na veliku tržnicu, kojom manipulira upravo Figlia "

War veteran Nico takes it on the road hauling fruit to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of vicious and amoral produce shylock Mike Figlia. En route he is "befriended" by beautiful and exotic Rica, who turns out to be in league with Figlia and initially betrays Nico. Defeated and brutally beaten, Nico is forced first to fight for survival, and then for his ability to trust Rica, for whom he still has feelings. Can a betrayed man on a failed mission give up his mission and forgive his betrayer?

Thieves Highway is set in San Francisco and the surrounding countryside. Richard Conte plays Nick Garcos, an American GI who returns from WWII to find that his father Yanko (Morris Carnovsky), a produce trucker, has lost the use of both legs because of a fight with crooked truck driver Mike Figlia (Lee J. Cobb). Nick is a clean-cut guy who was set on marrying his sweetheart Polly Faber (Barbara Lawrence). Instead, Nick gets embroiled in his fathers feud with Mike, buying a truck and falling deeper into racketeering. He delivers a truckload of apples to Mike as part of a scheme to expose his cheating. A prostitute, Rica (Valentina Cortesa), tells Nick that Mike has his own plot to trap him. Nick and Rica help Mikes henchmen learn that Mike has also been cheating them, and Nick eventually gets his revenge. But Nick has permanently lost Polly because of his involvement with the gangsters and his change in personality from a good guy to a more sinister businessman. Director Jules Dassi
