Director Stephan Elliott comes completely unstuck with this dismal adaptation of Marc Behm's novel, a stodgy combination of ersatz James Bond, sub-Hitchcock thriller and psychological love story spruced up with a misplaced surreal feel. Secret Service agent Ewan McGregor is assigned to follow serial killer Ashley Judd. However, because the seductive assassin reminds him of his long-lost daughter, he darts all over the world obsessively spying on her, even committing murder himself to ensure she isn't apprehended. Unable to navigate such deep and emotionally complex waters, Elliott's farcical potboiler paints itself into far too many ludicrous corners, while McGregor does little with a thankless role he clearly isn't old enough to play.
