TARTALOM ISMERTETő
Writer/director Lucas Belvaux explores the nature of victimhood in this brutal yet compelling abduction drama that saves its most chilling action for the latter stages of tycoon Yvan Attal's ordeal. Snatched for the non-payment of a gambling debt the day before he is due to visit China with the French president, Attal is kept in isolation (minus a fingertip). With each hour of incarceration he becomes further convinced that wife Anne Consigny has discovered his reckless double life of risk-taking and philandering. However, his patrician sense of entitlement remains undiminished, even as his company's board debates whether he is worth the large ransom demanded by his kidnappers. Depicting Attal's plight in excruciating detail, Belvaux also examines the family's humiliation and the role played by the media in sensationalising the case, hampering police investigations and raising the greedy gang's expectations.
