SYNOPSIS

Vada Sultenfuss, 11 ans, vit entre son père, Harry, entrepreneur de pompes funèbres, et sa grand-mère sénile. Sa mère est morte en lui donnant la vie. Vada passe beaucoup de temps avec son seul ami, Thomas J, et suit par ailleurs les cours de poésie de monsieur Bixler, dont elle est secrètement amoureuse...
