Gino and Elvira have been married for forty years,but through lack of money,they had to part:they each live with one of their daughters.They suffer from the separation although they often phone each other and secretly meet in hotel rooms.When the vacation comes, Elvira leaves Rome with her daughter and her grandchildren.Gino,alone in the city,burglarizes his son-in-law's apartment to get money to join his wife .
