As an employee of a Munich travel agency, the young and beautiful Marla is to organize a package holiday to the legendary Königssee. She travels with Maximilian Leitner, a hotelier, an equally fascinating and mysterious man who owns the best hotel on the Königssee. She realizes that the gallant hotel owner is surrounded by a mysterious mourning. He invites her to a romantic dinner and both sleep together at the end. However, when she finds him in an attic room shortly thereafter, where he looks at pictures of Nora,, who disappeared without a trace 20 years ago. She decides to return to Munich. At the train station she meets journalist Evi Gruber, who asks her about Nora. Evi, however, can give her no information. Back in Munich, she receives two pictures from Evi. They show Nora in 1983. She learns from her mother Helene that Nora is her birth mother, but left her as a baby. She begins to investigate her mother. Shocked, she realizes that her birth mother is Max's former lover. Marla catches a terrible suspicion. She returns, determined to unravel the secrets of Lake Königssee once and for all.
