SINOPSIS
In one of his straighter roles, Bob Hope plays real-life comedian Eddie Foy who, after the early death of his wife, trained his seven children to join him in his vaudeville act. The trouble is that Hope's character is hard to like, and the musical routines are lacklustre, apart from one memorable sequence featuring guest star James Cagney. Reprising his portrayal of George M Cohan from Yankee Doodle Dandy, Cagney joins Hope in a beguiling song-and-soft-shoe routine to two Cohan favourites, momentarily lifting the film into a classier category altogether.
