Als Hausaufgabe soll Lisa ihren Familienstammbaum erstellen. Bei ihrer Recherche stößt sie auf eine schockierende Tatsache: Die gesamte Familie Simpson waren allesamt nur Kriminelle oder Menschen, die es zu nichts gebracht haben. Um sich Hoffnung für ihre Zukunft zu machen, geht Lisa auf die Suche nach wenigstens einer Ausnahme. Ihre Recherche führt sie zurück ins Jahr 1860 und zu Virgil.
