Ovaj raskošni povijesni film jedan je od nekoliko snimljenih u Francuskoj u povodu proslave 200. godišnjice revolucije. Redatelj i koscenarist Philippe de Broca majstor je za kostimirane filmove. Šezdesetih godina režirao je pustolovnu komediju "Cartouche", jedan od najboljih filmova Jean-Paula Belmonda koji igra naslovnu ulogu.
