Johnny Hawks (Kirk Douglas), a former Indian fighter, has made peace with the Sioux and become friendly with the Chief Red Cloud (Eduard Franz). His immediate task is to lead a train through Sioux territory. Hawks also finds that the Chief's daughter (Elsa Martinelli) has grown into a beautiful woman.
