In 1887, carriage driver Faraj is chosen to be the new ruler. Upon marrying Malak, a wealthy girl, he moves to her palace and neglects all his duties. Amid famine, he monopolizes grain, breaking promises and igniting a revolution led by his brother’s wife, Zubaida.
